I almost wonder if the car’s USB port sometimes erroneously sends an overloaded signal that partially fries the lightning cable. Like the tech I previously talked to, he also said they have lots of issues with CarPlay and they do the Factory Data Reset as their only solution, but they know that’s often temporary. I was at the Honda dealership for regular maintenance and talked to another service tech about it again. I then unplug and replug the iPhone and CarPlay loads properly. Sometimes it’s good that first try, but often the Honda screen displays “Loading” and just spins without ever completing the load. I wait for about 10-15 seconds after the car has started and then plug in my phone. So far CarPlay works, but most of the time I have to plug in the phone twice. The new cable did clear up a problem of intermittent reconnects that sometimes happened continuously making the connection sound like a repeating machine gun. The problem is so intermittent I could never pin it on the cable. As a last ditch effort I bought a new Apple brand lightning cable, even though I had tried other lightning cables we own. I tried deleting HondaLink from my iPhone 8 and it did seem to help, but CarPlay still doesn‘t work flawlessly. Go to “Settings>General>About>Name” and change it to anything else, just make it different then what it is nowĦ - Now proceed to follow this link below to reconnect to CarPlay: (This will NOT erase any personal information, it will erase some customizations and will probably disable location services, forget all bluetooth and wifi connections, etc)ĥ - IMPORTANT - Before trying to reconnect to CarPlay, try Renaming your iPhone. So my first recommendation (some of which I know you already tried, but the order and combination is also important) would be:Ģ - Disconnect or “Reset/Forget” the memory of your iPhone to the CarPlay Receiver from BOTH the receiver and the iPhone.ģ - “Reboot” the CarPlay (Press and Hold “Audio” until it asks if you wanna reboot)Ĥ - On iPhone go to “Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings” I've copied and pasted the steps from the Apple support rep below let me know if this works for the others of you that have posted here: I would think that is an issue for both Honda and Apple to address.Īpple's solution worked for me to resolve the CarPlay disconnect issues on my 2017 Honda CR-V! It was a big pain because of the need to reset all settings on my phone, but it worked. His wife's iPhone X works just as well in that car and they have even switched out phones on the fly with no issues.įrom the threads and comments I have read, it appears Honda is one of the companies that has not very successfully implemented CarPlay. My cousin has a Volvo with CarPlay and has had no issues and is able to freely plug in his iPhone X before staring the car and CarPlay works flawlessly. Even if I never had a connection issue, I would still find it annoying to have to wait 20-30 seconds after the car is turned on to plug in my iPhone. Also, if Carplay is working and I stop and turn off the car, I must unplug the iPhone and start the whole process again.Īll of this is very intermittent but I would guess that it is a problem about 50% of the time. ![]() ![]() The only solution is to find a place where I can turn the car off and wait a few minutes before trying the whole process again. There have been a few times when CarPlay will not begin no matter how many retries I attempt. ![]() Even then, there are many times when CarPlay does not start up and I often have to unplug and replug in my phone multiple times. I have to wait about 20-30 seconds after turning on the car before plugging in my iPhone 8 Plus. Using CarPlay with my 2017 Honda CR-V has sometimes been a frustrating experience. I have already contacted a Senior Advisor at Apple Support and he suggested to post a comment.
